It has been a crazy season of ups and downs. We sat on the pole at Daytona, and we lost an awesome race car on a short track. But after taking some time to recoup from an injury, we came back to run our first race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. All this and it’s only the middle of the season.
After being involved in a wreck in Indiana in the ARCA Series, I raced at Talladega Superspeedway and soon realized I had to take some time to heal the broken rib and fractured foot from the Indiana race. This allowed our Empire Race team to prep the two Camping World Series Trucks we had acquired for competition. The Camping World trucks haven't been the only race vehicles getting attention though; my dirt pro stock has not sat very well through the long mild winter. After completely rebuilding the exhaust system, front and rear suspension, and doing a lot of maintenance on the motor, it’s final ready to be scaled and set up for one of the race tracks in New York…I just haven't figured out which one yet?
It was an honor to bring the new Camping World Truck up to New York during the NYAPT Convention (New York Association for Pupil Transportation) in July, where we had the opportunity to display the truck at Staff Sargent Justin Whiting’s memorial in Hancock, New York. This was quite a task to accomplish because we had to use a Hummer H2 to pull the 82 Camping World truck up a gorgeous mountainside to the memorial because we couldn't get the trailer up the steep incline. Racing-slick tires are not the greatest for traction on grass and dirt.
We now have a show car in New York that I’ve had lots of fun putting on display. It’s been to the United Way’s Fundraising Luncheon out on Long Island, New York, Orange Ulster Boxes
Student Appreciation Car and Hot Rod Show, and many other car shows and corporate displays throughout the New York area. It was great to display it with Driver Troy Arnold’s dirt car on the midway during the Orange County Fair. If anyone wants to check it out, it will be on display on Saturday, September 15th during a street fair fundraiser in Walton, New York to raise money for Walton's Youth League Football Team, and to also honor a local soldier who passed away after returning home from duty. We’ll also have some raffles and giveaways like hero cards, some of the 82 ARCA car body panels, and much more. We’ll also have the Camping World truck on display on Saturday, October 13th in Saratoga, New York for the New York Contractors’ Association meeting.
We’ll be making a few more races in the ARCA and Camping World Truck Series before the end of the year. After being involved in a wreck at Pocono with the truck, it’s going to take some time to put the truck back together for the next race that we decide to do.
I’ll keep everyone posted on where we go next, but for now I have a lot of projects at home to work on, like restoring a 1935 Ford School bus, finish up a restoration on a 1969 international school bus and a 1947 Reo school bus, and also starting a 1953 Ford F350 project.
Keep an eye out for us on Facebook and Twitter to see where we go next!
